Explore Cozumel’s reefs, dive or plunge with intention, awareness, and respect. This is our Sub Culture. Guided by expert locals in small groups who treat the ocean like home — because it is.
Sub Culture was shaped by the waves and tides, by divers who live here, work here, who come from the sea and protect these reefs every day.
We keep our groups small so your experience can be big and impactful. More time underwater, more attention from your guide, and more bottom time to enjoy and protect the reef.
Homegrown guides genuinely cared for & our livelihood ecosystem/home.

Cozumel sits along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the largest reef system in the Atlantic and one of the most alive on the planet. Drift within the Mexican Caribbean Biosphere Reserve, in Cozumel’s famous currents past coral walls, swim-throughs, turtles, sharks, Spotted Eagle rays, and other keystone species — with exquisite visibility often over 100 ft.
When you dive into this Sub Culture, you are not only exploring a reef, you are helping protect it. We are the Change we wish to sea.
All experiences are led in small groups with expert local guides and designed around comfort, safety, and respect for the reef.
Unhurried two-tank drift dives through coral walls, swim-throughs, and vibrant marine life. Guided by locals who know and emerge from these waters, the sub life and the culture of the local communities that protect it.
Introduce yourself to the sub world and try scuba with personal instruction in calm, shallow waters before exploring the reef at your own pace. A fun “right of passage” to our sub aquatic lineage.
From Open Water to advanced specialties, build confidence with experienced guides with Sub Culture DNA who prioritize safety, comfort, fun and reef respect.
Family and friends can share the reef day with guided snorkeling or mixed diver/non-diver outings in crystal clear Caribbean waters.
Small groups. Unhurried dives. Guides who know the reef like home. These are the details guests mention again and again. The details guests see, notice, remember, and that make a big and lasting impression.

We started when I was a new diver, back in the Blue Angel years, & while we lost track of him for a little while in the middle, it has been SO good to see him thrive at SubCulture (previously Punta Sur). He seems so happy to be with this family. Diving with this operation is easy, a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. Jorge will always find you something special, be it a creature or a swim through or something else entirely. The boat is small & clean, & they take great care of you & your gear. & of course, their mission to educate their clients & take the best care of the reef - just incredible. Truly, can’t recommend them enough!Posted on Google kevinomalley87Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We love these guys! My wife and I dove with them prior to their rebrand when they were called Punta Sur and were recommended to us by fiends. They took wonderful care of us. I already had my AOW certification and wanted to introduce my then Fiance to the world of scuba. We did a discover dive for her the first year and came back the next year for her open water course. I was so pleased by the quality of education she received. Afterwards she was so confident in the water and the whole experience really set us up for success on the remainder of our dives in Cozumel and for our next trip. We’re looking forward for to the next time we dive with you guys!Posted on Google Oumelghait JamaiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Awesome team, great community of returning divers, small quiet boat, a very consistent experience over the past six years.Posted on Google Jose Luis DomenzainTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
Posted on Tripadvisor Dave the Dive GuyVerified Reef Dives - North and South America After +25 years of diving (and as a Master Dive Instructor) I can safely say that Cozumel is the best easily reached spot in the Americas. To top it off . . of all my +2,000 dives around the world, two Divemasters stand out above the rest . . one of those is Jorge (aka Cubano aka Eagle Ray Whisperer) of the 'Sub Culture' dive team. You will dive from a small boat (not a 'cattle' boat) and visit portions of the Cozumel's many reefs where others do not go or know. Never a bad dive!Posted on Tripadvisor Kevin PVerified Excellent experience - as always! Another great experience with Jorge, Willie, Edwin and Cris. I've been diving with Jorge for many years and this shop is my go to both when its a solo trip or if I'm bringing family and/or friends (both new divers and experienced divers). Everyone I have brought to dive with them or introduced to them have always been impressed with the eye on safety and commitment to having great dives and a lot of fun. If you are looking for a great Cozumel diving experience - this team is the best on the island. Plus they have one of the fastest, safest and most dive friendly boats in the Keiko.Posted on Tripadvisor Darcy SVerified Authentic, Eco-Friendly, Female Forward Diving Extravaganza My experience obtaining my open water, then my advanced open water, certifications with Sub Culture (formally Punta Sur Divers) was an unforgettable experience. I came to do just the three/four day open waters and ended up staying for an extra three days to complete my advanced open water. With each dive I had an amazing instructor who is a marine biologist giving even greater depth to the experience. With my dives which were just for fun it was one other and Cubano, the lead diver of this experience. The boat's capacity is 6 pax, thus, each dive is an intimate opportunity to get to know like minded people who care for the environment or pick the employees brains for knowledge on the area. As a eco-forward diving company, I was drawn to doing my diving course with Sub Culture. I found that every step of the way they took their time to detail the struggles of the Mesoamerican reef system in Cozumel and the important works that are going into trying to mitigate the damages to the reef system, including a portion of their earnings going back into conservation programs and female forward initiatives to help maintain and grow female participation in the industry. These learnings and the impact they have on the Cozumel community made choosing them a no brainer. Lastly, I was afforded the fortunate opportunity to stay with Cubano, the lead diving who has been diving for 35 years in Cozumel. This was an incredible experience and if you are able to ask if you can also enjoy this package, please do as you will get to stay outside of the touristy centre of Cozumel and be immersed in the wildlife the island has to offer, including less native wildlife likes bunnies and a cute cat. If you're extremely lucky it might be the perfect time for native fruits which will be prepared and explained to you by Cubano. On top of this, as a diver of this region for such a long time, he can impart with you great knowledge on the region and the changes that have occurred in the reef system. I cannot rate this experience more highly and strongly suggest choosing this company over the others offered on the island who want to choose profit over the protection of the ecosystem.Posted on Tripadvisor Eduardo BVerified Cozumel family time with Sub Culture 2026!!! We dove with Sub Culture during a family trip to Cozumel and had a great time! I traveled with my 2 kids, six and eight so I wasn’t sure how easy everything would be, but the team made it super smooth from the beginning. super professional and relaxed and easy to be around, which made a big difference for us. Diving was phenomenal and the staff made the experience really great at all times.. definitely recommend if you’re looking for something a bit more personal than the typical big dive operations. Would happily dive with them again!Posted on Tripadvisor Kevin CVerified Highly Recommended Divers I have been diving with Jorge “Cubano” since 2010. Fantastic DM and owner. I first dove with Jorge when he was working for Blue Angel then Tres Pelicanos and I am excited for him to have his own business Sub Culture Scuba. They run small groups out of the marina. The boat Keiko is perfect for divers and underwater photography. The boat has a large water tank for cameras. In addition to my experience, I have also brought my wife, mom, son and friends along with me to dive. Between dives there is always fresh fruit and peanut butter sandwiches. If youPosted on Tripadvisor sualejandroVerified Becear en Cozumel Experiencia increíble. Buceo profesional y responsable con el entorno natural ecológico. Es un privilegio bucear con ellos en Cozumel. La mejor experiencia de muchas que he tenidoPosted on Tripadvisor Angie AVerified Look no further. Best dive decision you’ll make in Cozumel! If you’re considering diving in Cozumel, Sub Culture MX is hands down one of the best choices. Look no further! They have a boutique approach with small groups, which makes the whole experience feel relaxed, personal, and never rushed. You actually get to enjoy the dive, with long bottom times and guides who are focused on you, not managing a crowd. Cris is amazing and plays a HUGE part in making the experience so special. She is attentive, fun, and genuinely cares that everyone not only has a great time, but they leave feeling inspired and a part of something bigger. Another reason I highly Sub Culture is their focus on conservation. It’s clearly part of their day to day, not just something they say, and it makes supporting them feel even better. If you want a more thoughtful, high-quality dive experience in Cozumel, this is the team to go with.Posted on Tripadvisor KeesmonVerified Perfect dive shop for experienced and newbies alike Though I have been diving with Cubano for years, this was my first trip with my partner. As she had been out of the water for a while, she was understandably nervous. Cubano calmly took her through the process of the dive on the boat, and gave her the attention she needed underwater. All of this while still maintaining a fun and safe diving environment for the rest of the guests on the boat. The Keiko (their boat) was build specifically for the type of diving we do in Cozumel, and everything is where it is supposed to be. From the individual refillable water bottles, to the fresh fruit, and the signature PB and J sandwiches, everything was on board that we could need. Surface intervals were either at Cielo (down south), at Paradise beach club, or slowly trolling towards the second dive site. From beginner to Cozumel veteran (and there are a lot of those on the Keiko), Subculture creates a welcoming atmosphere for all.
Our identity is shaped by water, this place, our home. It is our sacred responsibility and Sub culture to protect our culture and livelihood. From reef-safe operations to community-led conservation projects, we choose to protect the waters that give us life.

For this reason, we are unable to provide transportation for clients and recommend planning your arrival using official options to avoid issues and ensure everyone’s safety.
