Cozumel sits along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the largest reef system in the Atlantic and one of the most alive on the planet. Drift within the Mexican Caribbean Biosphere Reserve, in Cozumel’s famous currents past coral walls, swim-throughs, turtles, sharks, Spotted Eagle rays, and other keystone species — with exquisite visibility often over 100 ft.

From first-time divers to seasoned explorers, here’s what you need to know before joining our Sub Culture.

General Queries

What if I’m not certified but want to dive?

We offer a One‑Day Scuba Diving Experience for non‑certified guests — you’ll get basic training and can dive safely without full certification.

Ideally at least 30 days in advance, but we can accept bookings as short as 18 hours prior if space is available.

All prices are in US dollars. Booking deposits can be via PayPal (up to 50% of total). Balance upon check‑in. We accept: Credit Card via Stripe, Cash (USD or Pesos), or Bank Deposit. A 5% processing fee applies for Credit Card/PayPal.

Cozumel is great year‑round. Quietest: September–November. High season: January–April. Summer (July–Sept) is hottest. Underwater conditions remain excellent all year.

Expect wall dives, drift dives, swim‑throughs, coral pinnacles, wrecks and rich marine life — something for every level. 

1. Reservation Process

How do I make a booking?

Please fill in our online request form (include your certification level, diving dates and gear sizes).

You’ll receive an email from us to confirm your details followed by a quote. We reply quickly — check your spam if you don’t hear from us within 24 hours.

You reply to accept or request changes. Then you pay a deposit or full amount (see Payment & Cancellation Policies). Once you receive our confirmation email your booking is set.

Print, sign and bring your waiver. Arrive at the arranged time and place for your gear fitting, then go diving!

2. Diving & Safety

Do I need to bring my diving certification?

Yes — you’ll need to show your credentials in person or via email. It doesn’t matter if it’s PADI or another agency.

Yes — we provide a One‑Day Scuba Diving Experience for non‑certified participants.

Yes — we can teach you equalising techniques (provided no ear surgery or existing health problem).

Yes, when you follow standards and rules. If you answer “YES” to any health question you should consult a doctor.

Have a diving physician assess your fitness and complete the medical statement.

Yes — basic swimming skills are required.

Yes — we provide all necessary gear for scuba or snorkel, provided you tell us your sizes.

Yes — if your doctor authorises you, we will accommodate your needs.

We dive rain or shine. If the port is closed by Mexican Naval authorities (e.g., strong “Norte” winds) you will receive a full refund for that day.

Get a full refund if you notify the day before and provide a doctor’s certificate. A recommended facility: Cozumel International Hospital – SSS Chamber.

 

3. Courses & Certifications

What’s the difference between PADI vs SSI certifications?

Both are globally recognised. SSI often offers more flexibility, digital delivery and better price‑point. We’ve trained our PADI instructors as SSI instructors, so you receive the same quality certification at a better price and with added benefits like your own SSI profile.

Yes — we offer three options:

1. Reserved space (same price as certified diver, includes snorkel gear)

2. Last‑minute space (reduced price if available afternoon before)

3. Private Charter (tailored for mixed groups)

 

Yes — they can do a Discover Scuba Diving experience while you dive.

Yes — we can tailor your boat trip so certified divers and snorkellers can stay together.

Yes — certified divers can join a shore dive or boat dive while the kids do their certification course.

Yes — for example our 5‑Trip Dive Package and other multi‑day options.

At least 30 days in advance, though bookings as short as 18 hours are possible if space allows.

We encourage logging more dives first to build skill and comfort. Bottom time and experience matter more than rushing for the next certificate.

If you have fewer than 50 logged dives and haven’t dived in 2+ years; or more than 50 dives and none in 4+ years — you’ll need a refresher or Private Guide/DSD before full diving.

We offer Advanced Courses (PADI or SSI), Nitrox Courses (for certified divers) and other specialties.

 

4. Gear & What to Bring

What gear do you provide and what should I bring?

We provide: tanks, weights, first‑aid kit & oxygen, nitrox analyser, water & snacks, reusable water bottles (plastic‑free). You should bring: rash guard/long‑sleeve shirt, a refillable water bottle, towel, change of clothes.

Mask → Fins → Regulator → BCD/Wetsuit is the recommended order.

It depends on your tolerance. Water temps in Cozumel range ~26‑30 °C (78‑86 °F). In winter months (Nov‑Feb) a 3 mm may be advised.

In the marine‑park we discourage sunblock (even reef‑safe). Use a rash guard instead.

Yes — tell us your BCD size, wetsuit size, fin size, etc., ahead of time.

 

5. Logistics & Transport

We do not offer transportation to the marina in Cozumel. While some people choose to arrive privately, this is not legally permitted. For safety and insurance reasons, only transportation services authorized by local authorities and taxi unions are allowed to operate to and from the marina.

Cozumel is an island with strict regulations on ground transportation, and any unauthorized service can lead to conflicts with authorities and local unions. For this reason, we are unable to provide transportation for clients and recommend planning your arrival using official options to avoid issues and ensure everyone’s safety.

How do I get to the dive‑meeting point if I’m staying on the mainland?

Take the ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel (30‑40 min). Then taxi (~5‑10 min) to Marina Fonatur where our boat departs.

No — we cannot pick up at the cruise terminal (federal area). We’ll give you directions to our meeting point, which is a short taxi ride.

Usually not — morning 2‑tank dive may not fit your schedule. Consider a Private Charter or afternoon Discover Scuba dive.

No — land transport beyond the boat meeting point is not included; divers staying north must board at Marina Fonatur.

Our typical 2‑tank dive lasts about 5 hours. For example, departing ~8:30 am, returning ~1:00 pm under normal conditions.

 

6. Weather & Environment

What are the water temperatures in Cozumel?

Winter ~26‑27 °C (78‑80 °F); spring ~28‑30 °C; summer up to ~30‑32 °C (86‑90 °F). Salty Endeavors+1

Sunrise & sunset vary by season (approx ~6:00‑7:00 am / ~7:00‑7:30 pm). Full moons can enhance night dives and marine‑life activity.

A strong cold north wind (common Dec–Feb) can force port closures and cancel dives due to unsafe seas.

7. Cozumel Calendar & Important Events

Where can I find Cozumel’s events calendar?

Check local tourism authority websites or events listings for major festivals, triathlons, marine‑park closures, full‑moon events.

Yes — festivals, cruise arrivals or sporting events can increase ferry or taxi demand, alter pier access or change dive scheduling.

High season: January–April. Quietest: September–November (wet season). Underwater conditions remain excellent throughout the year.

8. Packages

What types of packages do you offer?

Multi‑day dive packages (e.g., 5‑Trip Dive Package), mixed snorkel/diver packages, family/celebration bundles — designed for fun and positive reef & community impact.

Typically: tanks, weights, gear rental (if needed), marine‑park fees, snacks & fruit, bottled water, guide and boat.

Yes — we happily accommodate mixed groups.

You’ll be offered either a refund for unused dives or a credit toward a future trip.

Yes — please contact us for current group/multi‑day rate specials.

 

9. Travelling with Family

What’s the difference between PADI vs SSI certifications?

Yes — we offer family‑friendly snorkel & dive options. Non‑diving children can snorkel while certified divers dive.

Yes — they can snorkel or join a comfort‑cruise while you dive.

Yes — we have eco‑birthday boat bashes with music, marine‑fauna games, piñata, and each child contributes USD $5 to a marine‑conservation cause.

10. Travelling with Non‑Divers

Can my non‑diver friend come on the boat while I dive?

Yes — snorkel‑only or comfort‑trip options are available so you both enjoy the day.

The day is structured so snorkellers join after the dive or go on a separate snorkel outing. Group sizes remain small for comfort.

Yes — we tailor the experience so the group stays together, accommodating different activities (dive or snorkel) in one boat day.

11. Port Closures & Weather Interruptions

What happens if the port is closed due to weather (e.g., “Norte” wind)?

If the Mexican Naval authorities close the port for safety, diving is cancelled for that day. You’ll receive a refund or credit toward a future trip.

Yes — we monitor conditions and notify you as soon as possible. We also offer alternate dates when available.

Yes — we offer refund or credit for unused dives due to port closures or weather events. See Terms & Conditions for details.

Dive sites are selected daily based on diver skill level, sea conditions, where divers have been already, and timing. If conditions change, we pick a safer alternative.

12. Pricing & Payment

Are all prices listed in US dollars?

Yes — all our prices are in USD.

A USD $50 deposit per person is required to confirm your booking. The balance of payment is due upon check‑in at our shop.

Credit Card via Stripe, Cash (USD or Pesos) or Bank Deposit. A 5% processing fee is applied for Credit Card/PayPal payments.

Please read our cancellation policy:

 

• Cancellations at least 30 days in advance: 100% refund (minus 4.9% transaction fee).

• Up to 1 week’s notice: 50% refund (minus 4.9%).

• Up to 24 hours: 25% refund (minus 4.9%).

 

Less than 24 hours: no refund.
If dives are unused due to port closure or whether you’ll receive refund or credit.

 

At least 30 days recommended. We also accept shorter‑notice bookings (from 18 hours) when space is available.
